From Mini-Golf Mishaps to Marriage: Abbey & Jack’s Romantic Keeneland Elopement
Some love stories unfold slowly over many years.
Others arrive with such certainty that both people simply know: There you are. You’re the person I’ve been waiting for.
For Abbey and Jack, that certainty came quickly—and never left.
Their intimate Keeneland elopement was romantic, deeply personal, and filled with everything that makes a Kentucky wedding feel special: timeless stone architecture, rolling green grounds, touches of blue, and portraits beside one of the most recognizable racetracks in the world.
But the most beautiful part of the day wasn’t the setting.
It was the way Abbey and Jack looked at each other.
A Hinge Match with a Hint of Country
Abbey and Jack met on Hinge, where a simple match introduced a Florida-raised animal lover to a born-and-raised Lexington country boy.
Abbey’s first impression?
Jack was very country.
The cowboy boots he wore everywhere may have had something to do with that.
Jack immediately saw Abbey as beautiful, honest, intelligent, and hardworking. From the beginning, they approached their relationship with intention. They weren’t dating simply to pass the time—they were looking for someone with whom they could build a real life.
Fortunately, they found exactly that in each other.
The First Date—and the Mini-Golf Pond
Their first date began at Local Taco just five days before Abbey’s birthday. After dinner, they headed to Malibu Jack’s for a friendly game of mini golf.
At least, it was supposed to be friendly.
Abbey is normally pretty good at mini golf. On this particular evening, however, her golf ball seemed determined to spend the entire date in the water.
According to Jack, she hit it into the pond approximately 15 times in a row.
While it may not have been Abbey’s finest athletic performance, the mini-golf disaster broke the ice and gave them something they still laugh about today.
They followed their game with Abbey’s first trip to Graeter’s Ice Cream, where she discovered what would become a new favorite: caramel salted chocolate chip. Then, because neither of them was ready for the night to end, they returned to Local Taco before eventually wandering around Target together.
Dinner, mini golf, ice cream, and Target?
Honestly, that feels like a very realistic preview of married life.
A Love Built with Intention
Abbey describes their relationship as compassionate, patient, and encouraging.
Jack’s first three words were love, team, and always—although he quickly decided that three words simply weren’t enough.
Their relationship is rooted in showing up for one another.
Abbey loves the continuous effort Jack makes to lighten her load. He looks for ways to serve her, reduce her stress, and make sure she feels cared for both emotionally and physically. He pays attention to the little things and finds thoughtful ways to show that he truly knows her.
Jack admires Abbey’s determination and resilience. She is hardworking, loving, protective of the people she cares about, and able to speak with someone she has just met as though they have been friends for years.
For Jack, one of the simplest gestures means the most: when they are out together, Abbey reaches for his arm.
It’s small. It’s instinctive. And it reminds him that they are a team.
When Spending Time Together Became Effortless
There wasn’t one dramatic moment when Abbey and Jack suddenly realized they had found their person.
Instead, it appeared in the ease of being together.
Abbey had always considered herself fiercely independent, but with Jack, she realized that independence had sometimes been a response to having her needs overlooked. Jack respected those needs without making her fight to have them understood.
She didn’t have to work at enjoying time with him. She didn’t have to be anyone other than herself.
Jack felt the same sense of alignment. Their early conversations revealed that they wanted many of the same things from life, marriage, and their future family. Combining their lives didn’t feel complicated—it simply made sense.
The fact that they were also wildly in love with and attracted to each other certainly didn’t hurt.
A Nashville Proposal That Didn’t Make It to Nashville
Jack had a plan.
He and Abbey were preparing for a last-minute weekend getaway to Nashville for CMA Fest, and he intended to propose during the trip.
There was only one problem: Jack was far too nervous and excited to wait that long.
As Abbey stood in their bedroom finishing her packing, she turned around to find Jack on one knee.
Her first response was, “Are you serious?”
That was quickly followed by a very enthusiastic yes.
Jack later admitted that if he had attempted to wait until Nashville, Abbey probably would have figured out something was happening based on how strangely he was acting. Instead, their weekend getaway became an engagement celebration—and the beginning of their next adventure.
An Intimate Ceremony at Keeneland
Abbey and Jack chose Keeneland for a private Kentucky elopement that felt both elegant and personal.
Surrounded by manicured greenery and Keeneland’s iconic stone architecture, they stood hand in hand and promised one another a lifetime of love, teamwork, patience, and encouragement.
Abbey wore a romantic white gown with delicate lace details and a flowing veil. Her bouquet of white roses, greenery, and rich blue accents beautifully complemented Jack’s blue tie, boutonniere, and classic dark suit.
Before the ceremony, Abbey shared a tender moment with her dad. The two have been especially close throughout her life, and the photograph of him kissing her cheek captured so much love in a single frame.
Then it was time for Abbey and Jack to begin their own family.
Their ceremony was simple, meaningful, and focused on what mattered most: the promises they were making to one another.
Newlywed Portraits Around the Racecourse
After the ceremony, Abbey and Jack explored the grounds for their wedding portraits.
Keeneland gave them a gorgeous variety of backdrops without ever leaving the property. They posed beneath stone archways, walked along the garden walls, shared quiet moments near the track, and—of course—stopped for photographs at the iconic starting gate.
The starting gate photographs gave their gallery that unmistakable Kentucky character. With the Keeneland sign overhead and the open gates surrounding them, Abbey and Jack looked ready to step into their next chapter together.
And yes, we are resisting the temptation to make too many “off to the races” marriage jokes.
Mostly.
Church, Cats, Brunch, and Buc-ee’s
Although Abbey and Jack love traveling together, some of their happiest moments happen during completely ordinary days.
They both work long weeks, so they are intentional about spending their days off together. Sometimes that means traveling, shopping, or exploring someplace new. Other times, it means going to church, grabbing Dutch Bros and brunch, running errands, or relaxing at home with their two “furry sons”—one black cat and one orange-and-white cat.
They are both homebodies who don’t need constant entertainment to enjoy each other’s company. They can cuddle up, work on separate things, and simply feel content knowing the other person is nearby.
Jack hopes they continue traveling throughout their marriage. His philosophy is that couples who travel together stay together—because if you can survive 13 hours in a car to Florida, you can probably handle everyday life.
The true test may be whether Abbey can survive Jack stopping at every Buc-ee’s along the way.
The Beginning of Always
Abbey and Jack may not have spent years wondering whether they were right for each other, but lasting love isn’t measured only by the amount of time that passes.
Sometimes it is measured by the peace you feel with someone.
It is found in the person who lightens your load without being asked. The person whose arm you instinctively reach for in a crowded room. The person who makes a long drive, a Target run, a quiet night at home, or even a truly terrible game of mini golf feel like exactly where you want to be.
Abbey and Jack found that kind of love in each other.
Their Keeneland elopement wasn’t only a beautiful Kentucky wedding day. It was the beginning of the life they had both been intentionally searching for—a life filled with faith, teamwork, travel, family, two spoiled cats, plenty of ice cream, and probably far more Buc-ee’s stops than Abbey would prefer.
