Tracey grew up in Mt. Sterling, Kentucky, where family was—and continues to be—an important part of her life. Alan’s story began along the Chesapeake and Delaware Canal in Maryland. He moved frequently and grew to know much of Maryland and its Eastern Shore, developing a lifelong love for the Atlantic Ocean and the Chesapeake Bay.
As Alan put it, “It must be love if I gave up blue water.”
The two met while sailing and scuba diving through the British Virgin Islands with a group of friends. Tracey’s first impression was that Alan was handsome and intelligent. Alan immediately noticed her beautiful eyes, her smile, and her naturally joyful presence.
Their first date was certainly not the usual dinner-and-a-movie experience. That evening, the group attended a Rihanna concert, where Alan naturally stepped into the role of protector—making sure everyone stayed safe while they danced, laughed, and enjoyed the night.
They then spent the next ten days sailing between islands, scuba diving, exploring beaches, and getting to know each other.
It was less like a conventional first date and more like the beginning of one very long adventure.
Finding Home Across the Miles
When their trip ended, Alan returned to Baltimore and Tracey returned to Lexington. But even as they began their relationship long-distance, Tracey never felt uncertain about where she stood.
Alan stayed connected, made time for her, and consistently showed her that she was a priority. His actions made her feel safe, supported, and cherished—and whenever they were together, she felt at home.
For Alan, traveling together confirmed what he already knew. He believes that if two people can travel well together, they can build a life together. After exploring the world side by side, there was no question that he had found the person with whom he wanted to continue the journey.

A Christmas Proposal at Home
After a love story filled with extraordinary destinations, Alan chose somewhere wonderfully familiar to propose: their back porch.
On December 23, he got down on one knee and asked Tracey the traditional question: “Will you marry me?”
Her answer was an enthusiastic yes.
They shared the news with Tracey’s family on Christmas Eve, adding another beautiful memory to an already meaningful holiday. The proposal was private, heartfelt, and perfectly suited to a couple who still finds so much happiness in simply sitting together on their porch.
An Intimate Lexington Garden Ceremony
Tracey and Alan’s Lexington garden elopement reflected the life they have created together: elegant without being overly formal, joyful without feeling staged, and centered on the people who matter most.
They exchanged vows beneath an arbor overflowing with greenery, framed by white hydrangeas, brick pathways, and the rich colors of a Kentucky summer garden. A few loved ones stood beside them as they promised to continue choosing the relationship they had already spent sixteen years nurturing.
Tracey looked effortlessly elegant in a tea-length ivory dress, pearls, and the most wonderful gold floral heels. Her bouquet brought a soft pop of color with peach roses, white blooms, and fresh greenery. Alan complemented her beautifully in a classic black jacket, light blue shirt, patterned blue tie, and gray trousers.
But as beautiful as every detail was, their expressions told the real story.

Alan shared Shakespeare’s Sonnet 116 when describing the kind of love he and Tracey have found—the “marriage of true minds” that remains steady even as life changes around it.
That sentiment fits them beautifully.
Their wedding was not the beginning of their love story. It was a joyful celebration of everything they had already built: sixteen years of partnership, countless miles traveled, quiet evenings on the porch, meals shared, adventures planned, and a love that has continued to deepen with time.
After their ceremony, Tracey and Alan wandered through the garden together, laughing, dancing among the greenery, and soaking in the first moments of being newlyweds.
