A Texas Girl, a Kentucky Boy and One Very Nervous First Date
Cassie grew up in Fort Worth, Texas, where she enjoyed the opportunities of a big city with the familiar feeling of a smaller community.
Luke was raised in the countryside of Bourbon County, Kentucky, surrounded by family in a community where everyone knew one another. He still considers it one of the prettiest areas in the state—and we cannot exactly argue with him there.
The two now live together in Elizabethtown, but their story began online.
Cassie likes to joke that they met on Christian Mingle.
Luke would like the record to show that it was actually Hinge.
When they met in person, Cassie immediately thought Luke was handsome. Luke thought Cassie was absolutely gorgeous—and very, very shy.
Their first date took place at Mark’s Feed Store, where they bonded over a shared appreciation for barbecue. Cassie is from Texas and knows proper brisket when she sees it. Fortunately, Luke’s favorite hobby is smoking brisket, so this was already looking promising.
Unfortunately for Cassie, she was so nervous that she barely made eye contact.
She spent much of the date playing with the paper sleeve from her straw while Luke carried most of the conversation. Whenever she did look into his eyes, she quickly looked away again.
Still, she smiled throughout the evening, and the two remained at the restaurant talking long after the food was gone and the bill had been paid.
Cassie may have been surprised when there was a second date.
Luke clearly was not.
When Loving Someone Feels Effortless
Cassie and Luke describe their relationship as loving, trusting, playful, and harmonious.
For Cassie, the realization that Luke was her person came when she noticed how little effort it took to love him—and how effortless it felt to be loved by him.
Luke respects her, listens to her, and always tries to understand what she is feeling. He allows her to be completely herself and reminds her that who she is will always be enough. He never forgets to tell her she is beautiful, even when her hair is out of place and her clothes do not match.

According to Luke, it is difficult to have a bad day when Cassie is around.

Fake Voices, Brisket and Kitchen Karaoke
Cassie and Luke genuinely enjoy one another’s company.
They do not need elaborate plans to have fun. Give them an evening at home, something delicious cooking in the kitchen, and a few drinks, and there is a very good chance the night will end with singing and dancing.
They love kitchen karaoke—strictly at home—and experimenting with new recipes together. Luke is happiest when he is smoking a brisket, while Cassie is more than happy to handle the eating portion of the arrangement.
Their home is also apparently filled with Cassie’s ongoing soundtrack. She walks around singing the same line of a song repeatedly and uses fake voices to hold entire conversations on behalf of their dog—or on behalf of Luke when he does not answer quickly enough.
Luke not only tolerates this; it is one of the things he loves most about her.
Their relationship is built on that kind of comfortable silliness: the freedom to be playful, a little weird, and completely yourself without ever wondering whether the other person will still adore you.
“Okay, Let’s Do It”
There was no elaborate proposal or months of secret planning.

Luke paired his jacket and crisp white shirt with jeans and brown boots, creating a look that felt polished without becoming overly formal.
Their clothing reflected the spirit of the entire day: special enough to mark the moment, comfortable enough to enjoy it.
There was no large audience and no complicated production. Cassie and Luke stood hand in hand, looked at one another, and made the promises that mattered.
