Elopement FAQs: Planning your Kentucky elopement
Everything you need to know — answered simply and honestly.
Planning an elopement should feel exciting, not overwhelming. Below are answers to the most common questions couples ask when planning an elopement in Kentucky and working with Elope Lexington. If you don’t see your question here, just reach out — I’m always happy to help.
LEGAL & LOGISTICS
Kentucky marriage licenses must be obtained in person at any county clerk’s office in the state. There is no waiting period, and licenses are valid immediately for 30 days. You can apply in any county, regardless of where your ceremony takes place.
I’ll guide you through this process and can recommend the easiest offices to visit.
Yes — Kentucky requires two witnesses. If you don’t have witnesses, no problem at all. I can provide them for you.
You will receive your license immediately, and you can marry immediately after receiving your license.
Logistics
Most couples book anywhere from 1–6 months in advance, but I also love last-minute elopements. Availability depends on the season, day of the week, and location, so the earlier you reach out, the more options you’ll have.
Weekday elopements tend to be more flexible and relaxed, while weekends are often in higher demand. Weekend elopements include a higher rate, which is reflected in package pricing
Absolutely!!! If you’re planning something soon, reach out — I’ll let you know what’s possible and help you move forward quickly and smoothly. You can always give us a call or send a text message to 859-492-0502 for a quicker response.
All of our wedding events are an hour in length unless otherwise specified. This amount of time covers the wedding ceremony, photo session, and lots of celebratory hugs and kisses by the two of you and your guests (if attending).
For most of our weddings, seating is not necessary. Some of our venues have limited seating available on-site, so please ask about your venue of choice when booking if seating is needed. If additional seating is necessary, you can rent seats from us for $6 per chair, which includes delivery, set-up, and break-down. It will be on-site waiting for you when you arrive!

Photography & Add-ons
Photography is included in the Core and Summit Packages through The Basics Photography Package.
Couples are also welcome to bring their own photographer — the Base Package is perfect for that. If you’d like the perks of the Summit Package but prefer your own photographer, we can absolutely customize that for you.
Yes! Depending on your package, you can add things like florals, cake, and other personalized touches. We’ll talk through what makes sense for your vision.

We always plan for the weather. That may mean adjusting timing, choosing a covered option, or embracing it with clear umbrellas. I’ll help you stay calm and flexible so weather doesn’t steal your joy.
Travel fees may apply depending on location and logistics. These are always discussed ahead of time so there are no surprises.
