Flat Lick Falls — Adventure Meets Romance

If you’re looking for a true adventure elopement, Flat Lick Falls is hard to beat. itt is at the very top of our favorite waterfall locations for a reason!

Hidden in the Daniel Boone National Forest near McKee, this waterfall feels like something straight out of a storybook. Moss-covered rocks, towering trees, and the sound of rushing water create an incredible backdrop for an intimate ceremony.

One of the reasons I love Flat Lick Falls is that there are multiple places where your ceremony can take place. Depending on trail conditions and your comfort level, you may choose to exchange vows:

• Along the wooded trail
• Near the top of the falls
• Beside the creek
• On the large flat rock below the waterfall
• In the open field near the trailhead

Every visit feels a little different.

Not every couple wants to hike.

If you’re hoping for a beautiful waterfall without the more challenging terrain, Hurst Waterfall in Cove Springs Park is an excellent choice.

Located in Frankfort, this hidden gem features paved walking paths, scenic overlooks, stone bridges, and a peaceful waterfall that’s surprisingly easy to access.

Because the walk is much shorter and more accessible than Flat Lick Falls, it’s often a better option for:

• Grandparents
• Young children
• Larger guest counts
• Couples wanting a relaxed experience

The surrounding park also offers beautiful wooded areas for portraits after the ceremony.

Creation Falls — A Favorite for Nature Lovers

Located within the Red River Gorge area, Creation Falls has become a popular destination for couples looking for an adventurous outdoor wedding.

The hike is generally considered manageable for many visitors, but it still includes natural terrain and uneven footing. Along the way, you’ll pass sandstone cliffs, forest scenery, and beautiful creek views before reaching the waterfall.

While I haven’t personally officiated a ceremony here yet, it’s high on my list of Kentucky locations to explore with future couples because of its beautiful scenery and proximity to the iconic Rock Bridge.

If you already love hiking together, this location deserves a spot on your list.

Cumberland Falls — Kentucky’s Most Iconic Waterfall

Few waterfalls are as recognizable as Cumberland Falls.

Often called the “Niagara of the South,” it’s one of Kentucky’s most famous natural landmarks.

The overlooks provide breathtaking views, and the surrounding state resort park offers plenty of opportunities for portraits throughout your wedding day.

Because it’s such a well-known destination, expect more visitors than some of Kentucky’s lesser-known waterfalls.

If having complete privacy is important to you, another location may be a better fit. But if you’ve always dreamed of saying your vows at one of Kentucky’s most iconic destinations, Cumberland Falls delivers unforgettable scenery.
