From “Just Friends” to Forever: Whitney & Justin’s Romantic Garden Elopement
Whitney and Justin’s love story began with two teenagers working together at the Elizabethtown Sports Park.

Her first impression was that he was funny—although, in her words, “maybe also a little dumb.”
Justin remembers Whitney as very cute and bashful.

As Whitney remembers it, “just friends” generally do not get dressed up and go out for dinner together. Justin agreed that nearly everyone could see where their friendship was headed, even if they weren’t quite ready to admit it themselves.
The dinner may have been a little awkward, but it was also sweet. Justin already saw how kind and devoted Whitney was, and both of them enjoyed having time together outside of work.
Sometimes the best relationships begin long before either person officially gives them a name.
Love Before the Label
Whitney realized Justin was her person when he took care of her during a time when she was sick.
They weren’t even officially dating yet, but Justin created an entire care basket for her and made sure she felt protected and supported.

Justin admires how hard Whitney works. When she sets her mind to something, she worries about it, works at it, and rarely stops until it is finished. He also loves her devotion to their relationship and the way she supports the things that matter to him without hesitation.

A Surprise Proposal Beside a Tennessee Creek
Justin planned his proposal during a trip to Tennessee, where the couple was staying in a cabin near a creek.
First, he needed to retrieve the ring without Whitney noticing.
His solution was to send her back outside to get his shoes while he secretly slipped the ring into his pocket. Once everything was in place, he suggested they explore the stream behind their cabin.
When they reached the creek, Justin began searching for a place to prop up his phone. He told Whitney that he wanted to take some cute pictures of them, but instead of setting a timer, he started recording a video.
He found a flat spot within the camera’s view, dropped to one knee, and proposed.
Whitney was completely surprised. She immediately began crying and, according to Justin, “freaking out.”
But somewhere among the happy tears, she managed to say yes.
A Romantic Elopement at Yuko-En on the Elkhorn
For their wedding day, Whitney and Justin chose the beautiful gardens of Yuko-En on the Elkhorn in Georgetown, Kentucky.
The lush greenery, peaceful pond, flowering hydrangeas, and Japanese-inspired details created a dreamy setting for their intimate celebration.
Whitney wore a romantic lace gown with long sleeves and delicate lavender undertones. Instead of a traditional veil, she finished her look with a large white bow tucked into her long auburn hair. Her bouquet featured soft blue and white flowers that coordinated beautifully with Justin’s navy suit and blue tie.
The entire look felt soft, whimsical, and perfectly suited to the garden around them.
After promising each other forever, Whitney and Justin explored the grounds for portraits. They walked beside the pond, stood beneath the trees, shared kisses among the flowers, and took full advantage of Yuko-En’s bright red bridge.
And by “took full advantage,” we mean Justin gave Whitney a movie-worthy dip right in the middle of it.
The Sweetest Four-Legged Wedding Guest
One of the most tender moments of the day wasn’t planned at all.
While exploring the gardens, Whitney met a very sweet dog and immediately stopped to give them some love. The photographs of the two touching foreheads are almost painfully adorable.
Considering Whitney grew up in the country surrounded largely by woods and dogs, the moment felt especially fitting.
It was a gentle little pause in the middle of the wedding day—and a perfect example of why some of the best photographs happen when couples are simply allowed to enjoy what is happening around them.
A Marriage Built for Cozy Nights and Big Adventures
Whitney and Justin don’t need elaborate plans to enjoy being together.
Some of their favorite nights involve staying home, making brownies, watching The Simpsons, or simply sitting near one another while Justin plays video games and Whitney colors or works on a diamond painting.
They are content doing separate things in the same room because being together is the part that matters.

Whitney’s dream date would involve leaving the state for a few days, exploring abandoned places, swimming at the beach, and watching the sunset. Justin imagines something a little closer to home: taking out the old truck he has been restoring since high school, picking up one of their favorite meals, and spreading a blanket across the truck bed beside a peaceful river or lake.
Different details, but the heart of both dreams is the same—going somewhere beautiful and enjoying uninterrupted time together.
